Ssssssssuperbooowwwl Sunday!

We’re late with our round up of the Superbowl teasers, (surprise, surprise) but I thought it best to get these up on the site so you could while away a few minutes on on Friday watching these and, if you feel like it, emailing us any thoughts or questions you might have on this year’s collection of summer blockbusters to podcast@mcyapandfries.com (or leaving comments at the end of the page).
I can’t remember when the first time was that I waited around for the Superbowl trailers to pop online, it can’t have been that long ago because its a relatively new thing that the ads are available so soon after showing on TV, maybe it was the first Michael Bay Transformers flick.
I do vaguely remember squinting at the screen for those 30 second snippets trying to glean what I could about the upcoming summer entertainments.
This years batch look pretty good, in order of my anticipation we start with our first real look at Chris Evans in “Captain America: The First Avenger”
Next up we have the other “Marvel Chris” (Hemsworth) and Natalie Portman in “Thor”
Battle: Los Angeles has had two very good trailers, I’m not in love with this one but I’m still looking forward to the movie.
I know I’m equally exited about Cowboys and Aliens though
JJ Abrams is one of the men behind “Star Trek”‘s triumphant return to cinema screens, as well as TV’s Fringe and Lost, although he was also responsible for “Undercovers” (canceled) and Felicty (curly). Super 8 is his current “secret” movie with Steven Spielberg producing; the trailer is mostly a mood piece and doesn’t give much away, as is the case with most Abrams joints, but this is it’s first real showing so far.
I don’t know what to think about Rango anymore, with each new snippet I ping pong back and forth between anticipation and “meh”
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” goes for the, now classic, Superbowl approach of cramming a lot of detail into it’s meager 36 seconds for Transformers fan boys to pore over (wait, are there any of those left after the last film?)
Then we have the new “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie; “On Stranger Tides”. I dunno, could you actually make me get bored of Johnny Depp?
Nic Cage’s “Drive Angry 3d trailer doesn’t even try
“…aaaand finally we have “Priest”
I like Paul Bettany (ever since A Knights Tale), I really do, but as a former agent of a (higher) power who tries to do the right thing and is turned upon by his erstwhile companions, this is ridiculously similar to Legion (which he made with the same director! It was Scott Charles Stewart last film!)
See what Gavin thought along with more news in Sunday’s show.
