So Where is this Week’s Podcast?

by on Apr.23, 2012, under Newspost

Derek had the distinct feeling the interior decorator was taking the piss with his latest "creation"

Due to scheduling conflicts I’m afraid that there’s no podcast this week, but we’ll make up for it next week which should be our MIGHTY AVENGERS-CAST!  (knowing us it should  be about 6 hours long!)

It’s proably a good thing as my review was going to be The Cabin in the Woods, one of the most difficult films  to review without spoiling it, EVER.  All I can say about it is, if you enjoyed and laughed at Scream , The Evil Dead films, Freddy, and Jason,  etc.  you’ll definitely get a kick out of it and should go see it now!

Seriously go see it and support smart, funny cinema!

Until next week…EXCELSIOR!!

Podcast 100!

by on Apr.16, 2012, under Podcasts

100

Nope, we've not even made ONE of these doing this bloody show

Yes, not only have we managed to do another podcast only the week after the last one, but  this week’s show also marks the 100 episode (I’m not evevn kidding!).

With our usual panache, style and attention to  preparation we’ve done absolutely nothing special for this week’s podcast to celebrate and instead we get on with the very important work of chatting about movies, insulting our audience (and Forest Whitaker) and reviewing John Carter of Mars, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and of course (!!?) A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas.

As usual here’s the show notes for anything we referenced on the show in case you want to take a look with us:

Lets see if we can manage another 100!! or maybe … 8!

Laserdicks For Rental

by on Apr.08, 2012, under Podcasts

As you can tell from the headline, ripped from the podcast itself, absolutely nothing has changed during our little break from podcasting. We have returned as immature and vulgar as ever.

Loading...

Thor and Agent Coulson eagerly await the mcyapandfries podcast to finish downloading, on dial-up

As we’ve been away quite a while, on this week’s show we discuss only the very best and most interesting  of the movie news that happened during the break, or at least the most interesting  news that we can stilll remember after a month or two.

We’re also playing catch up on the review front, with The Hunger Games, Underworld Awakening, The Descandants, Abduction (!?) and Midnight in Paris all getting reviewed in one form or another on the show.

As usual, I’ll leave you with the show notes so you can share in the trailers and pics we discussed, as well as with the promise that we should now be back on a regular schedule, providing you with more podcast goodness, more often.

Until next time:

We’re not “Lost”

by on Feb.16, 2012, under Newspost

Not Penny's boat

We're totally not trapped on an island with a smoke monster...honest

We’ve just been very, very naughty…I mean busy. My new job is giving me headaches and Gavin, well Gavin just finished a restaging of “Someone to Watch over me” in KL and is now in Penang with the show (more info at http://theactorsstudio.com.my/penangpac/index.html) and it just wouldn’t seem right to record show number 99 & 100 without him, so I hope you can bear the wait until he returns for the next slice of “fried gold”.

We may even have some very special  guests for #100, who knows…

Stay tuned!

we’ve just been very very naught.. I mean busy

What’s YOUR status?

by on Jan.08, 2012, under Podcasts

What's YOUR status baby? If it's unconcious then that's ok I can work with that...

This week we are very proud to present our review of “Relationship Status” the new Malaysian made movie starring a very talented young actor, Mr, Gavin Yap, (who even pops in to the show after the review to answer some questions!)

Also on this week’s show we have reviews  of George Clooney’s latest directorial effort the “Ides of March”, as well as the directorial debut of Richard Ayoade (he who played big haired Moss in the “I.T. Crowd” TV series); “Submarine”.

All of this plus our new feature…GAVIN’S TOY OF THE WEEK!
As usually check the links below for everything we talk about on the show!

Seasons Greetings! The podcast is fixed!

Gosling descending a staircase

'twas the night before Christmas....

Yes, we’re finally back again with a podcast and I’m very, very happy to say that we have FINALLY sorted out all the technical issues that we’ve been having since our um, “studio’s refurbishment”. Apologies again for the issues on the last two but we really are back to the same audio quality as we once had (pity the content doesn’t match). But enough about the past, let’s look to the future, which seem to be exactly what the movie studios want you to do, judging by the absolute deluge of trailers we’ve seen over the last few weeks for 2012 releases.  As usual I’ve listed them all below so you can “watch along with Mc & Yap”. Also on this week’s show we finally have reviews of the 2011 re-quel of “The Thing”, Seth Rogen & Jospeh Gordon Levitt’s cancer drama “50/50”, “The Muppets” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” in which I am reliably informed Tom Cruise is AWESOME.

All of us here at McYapandFries would like to thanks you for listening and wish you and yours the very best this holiday season.

“God bless us every one”

Stick with the program!

by on Nov.29, 2011, under Podcasts

Would you use an almost new spy-gadget from this man?

This week we are back on schedule and back to somewhat decent sound quality (I think, fingers crossed) with another great show featuring the usual news, including the casting of the new Q in the ext Bond movie “Skyfall” (that’s him over there) and reviews of “Larry Crowne”, directed by Tom Hanks and starring Julia Roberts amongst others; Ryan Gosling’s “Drive”; “The Trip” starring Steve Coogan (Alan Partridge and Phileas Fogg from the “Around the World in 80 Days” movie with Jackie Chan) and Rob Brydon (Uncle Bryn from Gavin and Stacey) as themselves as they argue and try out restaurants.

You’ll also finally get to hear Gavin’s thoughts on Tin Tin .
Here’s the show notes:

Finally, here’s Amy Smart’s..um acting ability in full force as referred to by Gavin in the podcast, enjoy!

Amy Smart ...um.. enjoying herself.

This podcast is BROKEN

by on Nov.24, 2011, under Podcasts

Consider yourself warned.

Due to either the electromagnetic properties of Gavin’s farts, the fact that David Knight’s musical genius disrupts all known recording media, or because I screwed up the “refurbishment” of our “recording” “studio“(aka messed up the reinstallation of my laptop) this weeks’ podcast goodness is plagued by clicks and echo’s which I’m afraid no end of post processing and audio magick has been able to fix.

I’m putting it up as we had such a good time making it and we managed to get a guest star to join in, but the quality is, like, the worst. Consider this McYapandFries lost tape volume 1 (although that should really be the London-KL skype cast with 5 minutes delay between each end, but that’s really unlistenable).

Anyway if you can bear the rubbish sound quality this week’s cast features reviews of comedy Drama “Crazy, Stupid Love”, starring Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore and Emma Stone; banking crisis drama “Margin Call” with a stellar cast featuring Kevin Spacey, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Irons and Zachary Quitno amongst others; body switch gross out comedy “The Change up“ starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman, and finally “Melancholia”, the latest from Danish nut job Lars von Trier.

As usual here’s all the trailers that we discuss in the show, the next show should be back to full audio quality once more (if not quality of content). Enjoy!

McHead and Fries

by on Nov.17, 2011, under Podcasts

Yes, that subtle dig at Gavin in the title means that once again Geoff has stepped in to provide his thoughts on the latest movie news and reviews, and this time we’re taking it outside! Yes it’s our first McYapandFries  outside broadcast at Overtime at the Pavilion shopping Centre in KL (Gavin’s house doesn’t really count as “outside”)

This week, over a pint or two naturally,  we review “Tower Heist”,”The Adventures of TinTin”, “Real Steel” and “Immortals”. As  bonus the show also guest stars the waiting staff  from Overtime!

As usual here’s some links to some of the stuff that we discussed on the show, let us know what you thinkof us “doing it” outside!
