Find out in a show where we also review Malaysian film Hungry Ghost Diner, directed by friend of the show We Jun Cho. Iain also shares the result when he finally sat down to check out William Fiendkin’s Sorcerer.
As usual you can contact us at the social media accounts below to let us know what you thought of the show or anything else you want to share with us. Did you manage to Catch Hungry Ghost Diner in the cinema? What did you think?

Podcast 231: Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White
by admin on May.29, 2023, under Podcasts
McYapAndFries tries something a little different this week as we revisit 1995’s Johnny Mnemonic in Black and White!
After only hearing about this newish version of the cyberpunk “classic” recently, Iain and Gavin had to get their hands on a copy to check it out. And it was cheap!.
Join us on this week’s podcast as we revisit the nightmare cyberpunk future of…. 2021!??
Directed by Robert Longo, written by cyberpunk legend William Gibson and starring McYapandFries favourite Keanu Reeves as Johnny himself, we really didn’t know what to expect with this one but were pleasantly surprised!
Also on the show Gavin and Iain chat about Willow leaving Disney+, the latest shenanigans in Hollywood and we experience a little confusion over what actually happened at the end of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood before diving deep into the Keanu Reeves “Classic”.
If you enjoyed the show (or have thoughts on the movie, in color or Black and white) or have other VHS classics you’d like us to revisit(Brainscan! Surviving The Game) you can contact us via the usual social media networks:

Podcast Schedule and BFM Duck Rice Interview
by admin on Jan.08, 2016, under Newspost
Okaaaay then, we may have messed up our schedule over the Christmas period ( it’s a bit hard to coordinate recording a podcast when you’re separated by 8 timeozones)Â but now both Gavin and Iain are back ion the same timezone we should be getting back to our (somewhat) regular schedule, starting today with the recording of our Star Wars: The Force Awakens spoiler cast (if all goes to plan!)
In the mean time, for those of your waiting for updates on Gavin’s short film for Doghouse73 pictures; The Incredibly Strange Tale of the Man Who Lost His Love but Bought it Back with a Packet of Duck Rice here’s an interview Gavin recorded yesterday over at BFM, Malaysia’s business radio station, where he discusses the inspiration for the film and more.
If there’s anything YOU’D like to ask Gavin about the film, (or anything really), you can  email us at podcast@mcyapandfries.com, reach us on twitter @McYapandfries or find us on Facebook
A film By Gavin Yap
by admin on Jan.23, 2014, under Newspost
As Gavin is away in Singapore rehearsing for a play, we’ve not yet had time to record our first podcast of 2014 , but rest assured, plans are afoot to remedy this.
In the meantime here’s a quick update on Gavin’s film, yes, GAVIN’S FILM.
As regular listeners should know, last year Gavin directed his first feature film called “Take me To Dinner” (I’m also in the film, albeit in the background briefly in one scene) and it’s finally opening in selected GSC cinemas in Malaysia on 13th March 2014!
A darkly comic romantic drama, here’s the trailer to whet your appetite
…and look! Incontrovertible PROOF that Gavin directed it! Look at those hands!
In the run up to the release the production team have also been releasing some (pretty funny) behind the scenes featurettes,I’ve included the the first two at the bottom of this post, however there’ll be more to come so if you want to see them all then subscribe to the “Take Me to Dinner” page on your social media platform of choice:
